Clinical Supervision

“Life as a therapist is a life of service in which we daily transcend our personal wishes and turn our gaze toward the needs and growth of the other. We take pleasure not only in the growth of our patient but also in the ripple effect—the salutary influence our patients have upon those whom they touch in life.”

― Irvin D. Yalom, The Gift of Therapy

The Importance of Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is not only a mandated part of the licensing process, it is essential to learning how to navigate through the world as a new therapist. Our Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) pride themselves on being available to you (the clinical supervisee) 24/7. We want to help you become the best therapist you can be by discovering your strengths and limitations and growing from there.

Supervision supports trainee mental health professionals by offering oversight and support from a more experienced therapist. Many therapists see their supervisors as mentors that help them become the therapists they want to be. They provide direction in their careers and tools for self-care. This relationship will impact your professional and personal development for years to come. The clinical supervision process entails:

  • Helping you to prepare to start or join a private practice
  • Preparing you to treat clients in a variety of settings
  • Providing you with guidance on maintaining the highest ethical standards
  • Overseeing the implementation of evidence-based treatment techniques
  • Supporting your personal growth and development as a therapist
  • Case consultation
  • Emotional and professional support
  • Working through countertransference
  • Group supervision uniquely helps with public speaking, accepting peer influence, normalizing fears and concerns as a “green” therapist

Our Clinical Supervisors

Ashley Regina provides Clinical Supervision for those pursuing licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Ashley’s areas of expertise in client care and supervision include:

She writes: “Clinical supervision is an important tool to support clinical skill development, case conceptualization, as well as self-reflection. As your clinical supervisor, I will encourage you to acknowledge and examine your thoughts, behaviors, and feelings as you interact with your clients.

My clinical orientation draws from person-centered, family systems, and cognitive-behavioral theoretical models. As your supervisor, my job will include the roles of teacher, consultant, and counselor to best support your development as a clinician. The supervision you will receive will be developmentally applicable to best reflect your objectives and skill level.”

Supervision offered will incorporate discussions surrounding cultural impacts on the therapeutic relationship as well as theoretical orientation and case conceptualization. You will be treated with respect and you will be both challenged and supported throughout supervision.
